Chetek Public Arts League

Our Mission

The Chetek Public Arts League, Inc. (CPAL) is a volunteer non-profit 501(c) (3) dedicated to creating exciting displays of art and supporting public art activities to enrich life in our city. We believe that art can be a powerful means of sharing our stories and building community by engaging our neighbors as participants as well as observers.

Our Story

Our work began in 2023 with our first project on Knapp Street—a beautiful mural created by C.J. Conner that speaks to our town's wildlife and native habitat. It's enjoyed daily by locals and tourists alike.

During the 2023-2024 school year, we collaborated with elementary-aged school children to create a mosaic that now hangs in our local elementary school.

In the summer of 2024, we expanded our impact with three more murals, all collaborations between local building owners, artists, and CPAL. These murals reflect the diverse life, values, and culture of our community, enhancing Chetek's outdoor spaces.

In 2025, we created a large-scale mural on the Edgewood Bakeshop wall and launched an exhibit of local art and stories. This exhibit is the work of more than 60 participants who poured their creativity into sharing their Chetek-related experiences, demonstrating the power of art to unite and celebrate our community.

So far in 2026, we kicked off another community project for America250, completed a new mural behind the Rod and Gun, and have 3 more projects planned.

Looking forward, the area we serve is rich in natural beauty. CPAL seeks to extend that beauty beyond the shores, welcoming all community members to engage not only as viewers, but as participants.

What we do

Our initial focus is on commissioning murals. Murals make a visual statement about the community's values, culture and imagination. We look forward to supporting other types of outdoor art projects as well. We welcome ideas and suggestions from all members of the community and encourage all to get involved.
