Nancy's Wall
The obstacles related to the Rod N Gun's building back wall were what inspired it's content. That and also the store's established retail theme dictated the use of game creatures. The door needed an unusual entrance, so it became a bear's mount. A bear was a perfect species to paint as it's head was very square, thus fit perfectly. The added details of the boy, hunter, and mermaid were requested to "Nancy up" the mural. It's features quotes and speech bubbles that act as a mix of humor and a subtle logo for the business.
About the Artist
Oddly enough, Nancy's bio states she grew tired of the local theme of fish, fowl, and mammals after she moved to Chetek from Illinois and yet, this mural inspired her to take on that theme again. While Nancy generally sticks to portraiture, vintage circus, fantasy, and bead embroidery she enjoyed every second of painting her mural. Most of Nancy's working life involved musical theatre, ergo her artistic endeavors generally taking on a theatrical look. She's been a singer and artist most of her life and comes from a very artistic family.
