We're Painting the Town
The Chetek Public Arts League, Inc. (CPAL) is a volunteer non-profit dedicated to creating exciting displays of art and supporting public art activities to enrich life in our city. We believe that art can be a powerful means of sharing our stories and building community by engaging our neighbors as participants as well as observers.
Chetek-The Rest of The Story Unveiling!
The unveiling of CHETEK – THE REST OF THE STORY will occur on Saturday, May 10th, 2:00 p.m. at Main Street Park in Chetek. At this time, banners comprised of the approximately 60 illustrated stories submitted for the project will be hung and presented to the public for the first time. Two local guest speakers, library director Emily Resendiz and artist C.J. Conner, will address the topic of storytelling through words and pictures, and the significance of stories in our lives. We invite you to join us to celebrate our shared experiences of life in our city. -- For more information, please go to the “Chetek-The Rest of the Story” page of our website. CLICK HERE
Our Projects
If you have meandered through Chetek, you have undoubtedly noticed our first project (started in 2023) on Knapp Street. The beautiful mural created by C.J. Conner is a wonderful example of our mission. The work speaks to our town and community with its wildlife and native habitat and is enjoyed daily by locals and tourists alike.
During the 2023-2024 school year, the CPAL worked with elementary aged school children to create a mosaic that hangs in our local elementary school.
The summer of 2024 brought three more murals, all collaborations between local building owners, artists, and the CPAL. These murals reflect the diverse life, values, and culture of our community, and increase understanding among area residents and visitors while enhancing Chetek's outdoor spaces.
The area we serve is rich in natural beauty. The CPAL seeks to extend that beauty beyond the shores.
CPAL's Focus
The CPAL's initial focus is on commissioning murals. Murals make a visual statement about the community's values, culture and imagination. Since this is true of all art, the CPAL looks forward to supporting other types of outdoor art projects as well. We encourage all community members to engage, not only as viewers, but as participants. The CPAL welcomes ideas and suggestions from all members of the community.
